Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows Program

For more than 35 years, the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program has brought prominent artists, diplomats, journalists, business leaders, and other nonacademic professionals to campuses across the United States for week-long residencies of teaching and dialogue with students and faculty members. Through an intensive program of classes, seminars, workshops, lectures, and informal discussions, the Fellows create better understanding and new connections between the academic and non-academic worlds. Roger Bowen, who has served as president of two universities and general secretary of the American Association of University Professors, directs the program.

Program Details

Institutions are responsible for providing lodging and meals for Fellows while they are on campus. Cost conscious campuses often use on-campus housing and incorporate the Fellow’s meals into campus activities to conserve funds. Additionally, institutions pay a set fee to CIC, and CIC covers the Fellow’s honorarium, primary travel, and other incidental expenses.

Once a campus decides to bring a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow to its institution, a primary contact or “campus coordinator” should complete the 2009–2010 Campus Request Form. CIC will quickly match the institution with a requested Fellow, and the campus can immediately begin planning the week of activities with the Fellow.

Fee Structure:

Standard Price: $6,250 (or $7,250 for hosting a visiting couple)

CIC Price: $5,750 for standard visit (or $6,750 for visiting couple)

Campuses interested in hosting a Visiting Fellow in the 2009-2010 should follow the instructions below. The priority deadline to request a Fellow for 2009-2010 is March 2, 2009.

2009-2010 Application Information:

Please view the complete roster of Fellows and rank order by preference three or four Fellows. Next, complete the 2009-2010 Campus Request Form. The priority application deadline is March 2, 2009, but applications will be accepted at any time.

Campus Request Form: Request Forms should be completed by a campus-designated “campus coordinator” who will be CIC’s point of contact throughout the planning and execution of the visit. The Campus Request Form can be completed entirely online using the link below.

CIC continues to make placements for the spring 2009 semester. To request a Fellow, please complete the 2008-2009 Campus Request Form. Once you have a visit scheduled for the 2008-2009 year, please consult the Campus Coordinator’s Planning Manual.
