Matthew W. Burris is an attorney with Novus Law Firm, where he advises and litigates on behalf of schools, colleges, and universities on all issues affecting U.S. educational institutions. Before joining Novus Law Firm, Burris gained in-house experience in the Office of General Counsel for the University of North Texas System, the University of Mississippi, and the U.S. Department of Education, where his practice included litigation, board governance, development, athletics, tax (TEGE), and employee benefits. In private practice, he has represented educational institutions in all areas of civil litigation including labor disputes, collective bargaining, employment discrimination, tort claims, and administrative complaints in state and federal court as well as before administrative agencies. He has also represented institutions in matters unique to educational institutions, such as Title IX, degree revocations, denials of tenure, and plagiarism-based student discipline.
