The Council of Independent Colleges announces that Ellen Peters will be CIC’s director of strategic research and assessment starting in mid-January 2024. Peters is currently the associate provost for institutional research, planning, and student success at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. She’s worked in institutional research roles at Puget Sound, which is a CIC member institution, since 2011.
“We are delighted to have Ellen join CIC’s member engagement team to continue to build on the work we’ve been doing to establish a culture of data and assessment to drive our strategies,” said President Marjorie Hass.
The director of strategic research and assessment provides leadership for CIC’s member engagement initiatives, utilizing data to make informed decisions about future programing and offerings to current and prospective members.
Prior to Puget Sound, Peters worked in the institutional research offices at Bates College in Lewiston, ME, and the George Washington University in Washington, DC. In addition, she’s the past president of the Association of Institutional Research and current board member of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium.
“With two decades of work within independent colleges, I look forward to collaborating across the sector in conducting research to demonstrate the collective value of independent higher education,” said Peters. Peters is working on a doctorate in education leadership from the University of Washington, and has a master’s degree in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s in psychology and theater from Bates College.
