Each year, NetVUE hosts a series of events for faculty members and scholars in the fields of theology and religious studies. Just prior to the Annual Meetings of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature, a pre-conference gathering focuses on the significance of vocation, meaning, and purpose in the life and work of scholars and educators who specialize in these academic fields—whether from a specifically faith-oriented theological perspective, or that of the social-scientific study of religion. Attention is given to the wide range of faith traditions and lifestances that are addressed in the religious studies classroom. Faculty members in departments of religion and theology at NetVUE member institutions are encouraged to arrive at the Annual Meeting on Thursday in order to participate in this gathering before the main conference begins. NetVUE also hosts a reception for all attendees of the Annual Meetings and offers one session during the conference itself on a vocation-related theme.
