Updates from State Councils

State Councils at the 2025 Presidents Institute

State Councils are consortia of private colleges and universities with the mission of advancing and strengthening their member institutions. The consortia are comprised of 23 state organizations serving over 400 institutions across the country. Executives from ten State Council organizations participated in CIC’s 2025 Presidents Institute.

This year, State Councils led a concurrent session titled “Leveraging Career Center Collaborations to Build Student Success.” The session was led by April Arnold, executive director, Associated Colleges of Illinois; Robert (Bob) Bartlett, president, Michigan Colleges Alliance; and William (Bill) Spiker, president, Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges. The robust discussion showcased each State Council organization’s approach to leveraging collaborations between campus career centers, external service providers, and leading businesses to efficiently boost career readiness and student success. Additionally, all State Council executives participated in a luncheon to share updates and learn from peers as well as hosted lunch meetings with member presidents from their respective states.
