Updates from the Work-Based Learning Consortium

We begin the second year of the Work-Based Learning Consortium with inspiring commentary from Drew University (NJ), one of our 25 participating institutions. As part of the Work-Based Learning Consortium coursework and opportunities, Drew offers Digital Video, the Computer Science Capstone, and Consumer Behavior courses.

In an article in the Drew Acorn, written by student Benjamin Castro, Stacy Fischer, executive director of Drew University’s Launch career development platform, speaks highly of the program. In the article, Fischer notes that the program aligns seamlessly with the goals of Launch and states that, “Work-based learning gives students that crucial real-life experience, helping them feel more prepared for life after graduation.”

As a result of faculty champion focus group research conducted by research partner Ithaka S+R, CIC provided two free project-based learning workshops to faculty members this winter titled “Revising Courses to Integrate Work-Based Learning” and “Facilitating, Assessing, and Grading Collaborative Group Work.” Kristin Wobbe, director of the Center for Project Based Learning at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA), facilitated these workshops.
