Emiliana R. Simon-Thomas became science director of the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) in 2012. Previously, Simon-Thomas served as associate director and senior scientist at the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University (CA), where she focused on the health benefits of compassion. She serves as an expert voice on the neuroscience and social implications of prosocial states like compassion and awe, as well as the wellbeing benefits of self-soothing, generous, and nurturing behaviors.
