Michael Mitchell is associate professor of African American studies and criminology at The College of New Jersey. There, he teaches undergraduate courses on policing, social justice, race and crime, juvenile justice, and the school-to-prison pipeline. He is trained as a criminologist, but is an interdisciplinary scholar who engages diverse audiences through speaking engagements and both peer-reviewed and public-facing publications. His work covers topics such as race and policing in the United States, returning citizens and post-incarceration experiences, and youth justice issues (especially the school-to-prison pipeline). Along with Tim Clydesdale and Angie Morenz, he is conducting research for NetVUE’s Purposeful Athlete Project.
