Richard M. Smith

Richard M. Smith is associate vice president for institutional mission and belonging at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, where he advances the college’s mission and values through leadership in inclusion and belonging. A former professor of sociology and recipient of the Ira G. Zepp Teaching Award for Excellence in Teaching, his research and presentations explore the intersections of race, religion, and social justice. He also serves as college chaplain, fostering campus-wide dialogue on purpose, community, and vocation through programs such as The Table and the Inclusive Imprints project. Previously, he served as associate provost for equity and belonging at McDaniel.
