Bridging Academic Mission with Market Demands

November 3, 2024 Galleria North

A challenging higher ed environment has added to the already evolving and complex role of provost: that of “chief product officer.” What does that mean for the nature and scope of CAO responsibilities? How can the provost lead academic change that positions the institution to reach critical enrollment and revenue goals while also staying true to its mission? This seminar will provide an interactive simulation in institutional strategy decisions to gain insights on bridging academic mission with market demands. The session will revolve around small groups workshopping a real case study, sharing their findings, and having their conclusions “graded” in simulations. A panel, including a CAO from a CIC institution and leaders at Art & Science Group, will lead discussion and reflection on how provosts can support developing the student experience in ways that are both mission-aligned and pedagogically valid and, at the same time, resonant enough in student markets to position the institution to thrive sustainably.
