College Presidents for Civic Preparedness
College Presidents for Civic Preparedness is a new initiative convened by the Institute for Citizens & Scholars to bring together college presidents who are committed to addressing the challenge of ensuring today’s young people are well-informed, productively engaged, and committed citizens. The initiative connects leaders of four-year institutions, including large public flagship universities, Ivy-plus campuses, HBCUs, STEM-focused schools, liberal arts colleges, and faith-based institutions. Finding New Paths to Success: Rebuilding the College President’s First 100 Days
The average tenure of a college president has dropped from 8.5 years in 2006 to 5.9 years in 2023, and as veteran presidents can attest, the first 100 of days of a college president’s term can be the most important of their career. Our session invites college and university presidents to look back on their first 100 days in office and reflect on how they might approach those 100 days were they to do them again. We’ll discuss how they might change (or keep!) their approaches to technology, enrollment, student engagement and retention, program development, and more, with the aim of creating a best-practices guide that any college president—new or old—can follow.
