From Outrage to Activism: Past and Contemporary Case Studies as Models for the Future

January 5, 2025 Cibolo Canyon 10 and 11

(Open only to currently serving college and university presidents.)

Long before the campus protests beginning in October 2023, colleges and universities have supported students as they discern their beliefs about a wide range of topics and as they engage in activism based on those beliefs. While student activism is sometimes focused outwardly on global or national issues, there are often components of student activism pointed toward their own institutions or directed squarely at their presidents. Today more than ever, that same spirit of activism is found not only among our students but among stakeholders within (faculty and trustees) and outside (donors) our campus walls. Leading alongside activism and in the face of outrage can be a challenge. In this session we will reflect on and share case studies and lessons from our own experiences dealing with student and other stakeholder activism about a variety of local, national, and global topics.
