This session will be an informative conversation about how provosts and vice presidents of advancement can work collaboratively to secure millions of dollars in external grant funding. The presenters will discuss the common goals of provosts and vice presidents of advancement, the structural obstacles to collaborative efforts to secure grant funding, and importantly, ways to mitigate these obstacles to collaboration. The session will review two case studies, one at Juniata College (PA) and one at Hood College (MD), both of which resulted in millions of dollars secured for scholarships, academic programs, undergraduate research, and student support services. Representatives from McAllister & Quinn LLC will also participate in the session to outline how partnerships are developed and implemented on campus and the roles that leaders in academic affairs and advancement play in successful partnerships. The panelists will also address common mistakes that some institutions make in pursuing funding opportunities, engaging faculty, and communicating fundraising priorities to relevant campus constituencies.
