Individual and Institutional Vocational Inheritances as Narratives to Reckon With

March 21, 2026

As students discern callings and consider future possibilities, it is essential that they interrogate the narratives that they have inherited concerning work and purpose. To support students well as they reframe and re-story their understandings of work and calling, we need to be doing the same work ourselves—on both an individual and an institutional level. This presentation invites participants to explore both of these aspects of their vocational inheritance and to consider how examining these stories can create generative spaces for new stories and possible futures for our students and our colleges and universities.
