In an era of intense political tension, institutional and personal uncertainty, and relentless demands on higher education leaders, how does one stay rooted in purpose, connected to joy, and aligned with values? This interactive workshop invites chief academic officers, student life administrators, and their teams to breathe, reflect, and recommit to practices that will sustain them through these difficult times. Research shows that leaders who create the space to nurture their personal relationships and physical health are better equipped to make thoughtful strategic decisions, deal with complexity, and manage difficult stakeholders. These leaders are also more likely to experience joy, stay connected to their core purpose, and stay committed to their institution.
Led by former CAO and certified executive coach Chinyere Oparah, this workshop explores the relationship between personal wellbeing, grounded leadership, and organizational resilience. Participants will leave affirmed, informed, and renewed, with actionable strategies for cultivating grounded joy amidst uncertainty, protecting time and energy through strategic boundaries, empowering teams to reduce dependency and burnout, and aligning leadership with values and vision. Through storytelling, reflective exercises, and collective wisdom, this session helps student-centered leaders lead sustainably and thrive—without sacrificing their wellbeing in the process.
