Programming for Effective Student Success

This workshop is designed for those in roles that collaborate on student success on campuses. The workshop will cover effective practices in supporting students to achieve their academic and professional goals. Participants can include officers from academic services; student affairs; student support, diversity, belonging, inclusion, and culture; teaching and learning centers; career services and athletics; among others.

Workshops require pre-registration as space is limited. The registration fee covers materials, meals, and refreshments. To add a workshop to an existing Institute registration, please contact conferences@cic.edu. Fee: $190

Alden Stout is an experienced academic leader currently serving as vice president for academic affairs at Newman University (KS). In this role, he oversees curriculum development, faculty recruitment, academic budgeting, and assessment across five schools. His background includes overseeing academic policies, supporting faculty development, and liaising with accrediting bodies and community partners.

Senior Vice President for Academic Programs, Council of Independent Colleges

Titi Ufomata is senior vice president for academic programs at the Council of Independent Colleges. Prior to joining CIC, she was provost and senior vice president at Saint Mary’s College (IN) and provost and dean of faculty at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (NY). She was also associate provost and Distinguished Professor at Kentucky State University.

Think Big, Act Bold: Transforming Student Success from the Inside Out

This interactive workshop will guide participants through the process of implementing a 360o advising model that holistically supports students’ academic, personal, and professional success. Focusing on cross-campus collaboration, the session will explore how to reorganize student success strategies to create an integrated, student-centered approach. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to identify key stakeholders, map support services, and design action plans tailored to their institutional context. The workshop will also cover strategies for assessing impact using qualitative and quantitative data. Attendees will leave with practical tools and frameworks to plan, implement, and evaluate a campus-wide student success transformation.

Untold: Purpose, Promise and Progress – A Formula for Student-Athlete Success

This conversation is designed for those interested in a deeper understanding, an insider’s perspective and a more accurate narrative of college sport and the student-athlete academic experience. It is a discussion for those who are curious or who have roles that collaborate with and contribute to student-athlete holistic success on campuses. The dialogue will cover a historical snapshot of the NCAA’s academic policies and share supporting data and relevant research related to student-athlete academic success and achievement. The session will explore college sport and the student-athlete experience as a “high impact practice” because of the transformative learning and its correlation to foster key student outcomes like high levels of engagement and academic success.

The State of Play in Student Success: Perspectives from Research, Students, and Student Success Professionals

Now more than ever, colleges and universities are striving to improve    student success. Using qualitative and quantitative data from their work over the last 25 years, Blaich and Wise will review research on the pedagogies, practices, and conditions that promote students success, findings from recent surveys and interviews on the ways that students frame success in college, and review the institutional structures that can support or hinder the efforts of student success professionals.
