This workshop will demonstrate the transformative impact of one of Nazareth University (NY)’s Solidarity and Social Justice Interfaith Retreats—the Civil Rights Journey—on its own understanding of its institutional vocation to respond to current social justice concerns. By exploring the partnership with the Living Legacy Project, participants will learn how this interfaith retreat deepens understanding and prompts meaningful action toward social justice, as rooted in Nazareth’s founding values. This kind of communitywide contemplative experience can ground administrators, faculty, staff, and students in an institution’s foundational values, as well as provide an opportunity for individual and collective discernment on how to dialogue about difference, diversity, and social justice.
