Allyship: Supporting the Campus LGBTQ+ Community
Allyship is not tolerance or passive acceptance, it is active—sometimes activist—engagement in supporting those who are marginalized. An ally can intentionally make space for underrepresented voices, choose not to look away when faced with discomfort, and simply believe the truth of others’ experiences as they relate them. With LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff confronting historic challenges both personally and collectively, allyship is critically important to the wellbeing of our campus communities. The presenter will help participants understand the current climate for the LGBTQ+ population, will address how participants can become effective allies, and will answer questions from the audience.
