Sustaining Ourselves and Strengthening Our Organizations

November 3, 2024 Broadway I and II

This interactive seminar will unpack the intersections between personal sustainability and organizational strength and will provide participants with actionable strategies to improve their own holistic wellness, reconnect with their purpose, and build capacity among their staff. By focusing on both personal and organizational wellness, the session will help senior leaders make the units they lead more sustainable and less dependent on their superhuman efforts. Leaders in high impact, high demand positions such as CAO or associate/vice provost often find that self-care and wellness are luxuries they cannot afford. When we view self-care as existing purely in the personal domain, it is easy to view it as taking time away from the critical work that leaders perform. Yet research shows that leaders who create the space to breathe, reflect, nurture their personal relationships and take care of their physical health are better equipped to make thoughtful strategic decisions, deal with complexity, and manage difficult stakeholders. These leaders are also more likely to experience joy, stay connected to their core purpose, and stay committed to their institution. In this interactive session, led by former CAO and certified executive coach Chinyere Oparah, participants will learn concrete strategies to empower those they work with, take back their time, and create stronger, more engaged campus communities.
