Vocation and the Social Sciences

March 22, 2024 Rooms 304–305

The social sciences can prepare students for lives of deep engagement with human communities, both professionally and personally. But while social scientists study human behavior—and, in training practitioners, even help try to shape it—are they ready to guide students through the practical and ethical challenges that are present in this kind of work? This session engages participants in an active problem-solving exercise, offering a space for conversation about the challenges students face, but also for sharing and generating effective approaches to educating for vocation in the social sciences.
