St. John Fisher University has taken a proactive, campus-wide approach to generative AI, thoughtfully evaluating and integrating it into teaching, learning, and operations with a strong emphasis on safe, ethical, and meaningful use of this technology for all campus stakeholders. Through intentional campus involvement, clear policy development (including syllabi statements), and extended professional development, we are ensuring AI enhances, rather than replaces, human expertise across the institution. We have also supported faculty experimentation in the classroom (building bots as simulated patients/customers, tutoring bots, creation of ancillary materials, etc.) and created spaces for faculty to engage in dialogue around curriculum and assessment redesign. Central to this work is preparing students for a rapidly evolving world of work by expanding access to emerging technologies, embedding AI literacy throughout the student experience, and offering an AI literacy minor. This presentation will take you through our journey with generative AI over the past four years, where we are today, and what we hope to accomplish in the future.
