Archives and the Institutional Saga
This session will share the hard-earned wisdom of experienced college and university archivists, who are doing the delicate work of discovery and dissemination of new information about the past to help their institutions reframe—and sometimes reckon with—their historical narratives. Panelists will speak about why it is worth the time and effort to begin this challenging […] -
Accompanying Queer Students into Vocational Discernment
In this session, the presenters will name the distinct vocational challenges faced by many LGBTQIA+ students. More specifically, they will identify the ways in which many well-received texts, models, and pedagogies related to vocation can sometimes actually function to marginalize queer students, making it more difficult for these students to embrace their vocational identities. This program allows rural, economically disadvantaged students to participate in a weeklong travel course that helps them consider their callings and vocation as they develop mission and vision statements and tour regional businesses. These experiences broaden the students’ perspectives, deepening […] -
Responding to the Needs of the Day: Contemplative Offerings and Social Justice
This workshop will demonstrate the transformative impact of one of Nazareth University (NY)’s Solidarity and Social Justice Interfaith Retreats—the Civil Rights Journey—on its own understanding of its institutional vocation to respond to current social justice concerns. By exploring the partnership with the Living Legacy Project, participants will learn how this interfaith retreat deepens understanding and […] -
Organic, Not Superimposed: Defining and Operationalizing Vocation for Your Institution’s Unique Context
How can we create vocational initiatives that fit organically with our institutions’ existing identity and programs, rather than pushing initiatives that feel disconnected? Abilene Christian University (TX) and Carlow University (PA) each explored this question with support from NetVUE grants. This session will focus on two stages in the process: developing a definition of vocation […]
