Yoga with Movement
Yoga is a Sanskrit word translated as “yoke” or “union,” which means to draw together; bind together; or to unite. Its aim is to yoke or create a union of the body, mind, soul, and universal consciousness. This class is beginner-friendly with options for more experienced participants. The session will allow movements to help participants find their energy for the day and postures will include options for both standing and sitting to encourage flexibility. You will feel a sense of peace and calm after the class, allowing you to fully enjoy your day. The session will conclude with a brief meditation. Yoga mats and/or chairs will be provided. Please dress comfortably.
Colleen McHenry, owner of Yoga Loft, has been a yoga practitioner and instructor for over 20 years. McHenry holds the 500-hour certification in Hatha Yoga, and is a Reiki Master and Pilates instructor. Her classes strive to promote authenticity and compassion and combine creative sequencing, playfulness, and inspiration to help yogis deepen their practice.
McHenry is currently a faculty member, researcher, and curriculum designer at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) with a doctorate in business. She has been providing academic consulting specializing in accreditation for the past ten years.
Meditation
Benefits of meditation include gaining a new perspective on stressful situations, building skills to manage your stress, increasing self-awareness, focusing on the present, reducing negative emotions, increasing imagination and creativity, and increasing patience and tolerance. This class is designed to soothe the breath, the body, and the mind. It is beginner-friendly and relaxing, and participants will feel a sense of peace and calm after the session. This session will incorporate some yoga poses which will include comfortable seated positions, reclining positions, as well as the option to lie down. Mats and/or chairs will be provided. Please dress comfortably.
Mary Quinn is a Florida native and instructor who began practicing yoga in 2016. She includes a combination of power yoga, vinyasa style flows, and yin in her classes.
Quinn is an experienced contract and procurement manager with an MBA in logistics. She is working toward a doctorate in physical therapy.
