Academic Programs
Behavioural Science
The Bachelor of Arts in Behavioural Science provides students with an understanding of multiple perspectives on human behavior, culture, and society. Students in this program benefit from a broad curricular focus, practicum opportunities, qualified and dedicated faculty, positive student experiences, multiple career trajectories for graduates. In addition, a strong and stable institutional support gives the students a strong foundational preparation for employment as well as graduate work. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide broad-based academic preparation for students interested in a range of career opportunities in the human services and academics.
Biology
Committed to excellence in teaching and research, the Department of Biology provides a strong foundation for students to pursue professional science careers. Faculty and staff take pride in offering discussion-based teaching and hands-on learning through every course offered to students. Our program provides students with the prerequisites for professional and graduate schools. Graduates from the Department of Biology can confidently pursue and succeed in their chosen healthcare-related career or academia.
Business
The School of Business equips students with the tools and knowledge to be dynamic and versatile leaders in their chosen field. Faculty and staff educate students on the business principles of today, combining lessons and examples with Christian values and insight. Graduates from the School of Business are ready to make a significant contribution to various business environments.
Education
The School of Education prepares its students to be quality teachers and role models for the next generation. Faculty and staff train students to become effective developers of human potential, demonstrating excellence and fostering similar growth in their students. Graduates from the School of Education are quality teachers modeling best practices with confidence, compassion, and competence.
General Arts
The three-year Bachelor of Arts concentration in General Studies offers students an open curriculum model that allows them to tailor their academic programme to their desired areas of study. This model allows students to direct their study to areas of their interest as well as providing breadth with the required core courses. Although the department determines the requirements related to the number of hours required for graduation, students have flexibility in their course options. The programme thus offers students a breadth of knowledge in various disciplines and a wide selection of more advanced courses in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, including the opportunity to develop basic proficiency in a second language.
General Science
General Science equips students with critical thinking and problem solving skills as they explore a variety of academic subjects. General Science teaches students a broad range of academic disciplines, with a focus on physical and biological sciences, as well as mathematical concepts. Faculty and staff encourage students to select courses based on their interests with a specialization in two to three areas.
International Studies
The International Studies Program provides an excellent background for students who want to make the world a better place. As one of the most customizable degree programs at Burman, International Studies is designed for students with endless curiosity about the world. Tailor the degree to your career goals with tracks in World Cultures and Societies, and Global Health Studies. Learn through travel experience. Study a second language. Music
Our Music degrees offer a diversity of career and graduate school options in both music and non-music areas. The Department of Music equips students with in-depth knowledge and skills to be successful in their careers. Music faculty combine diversity of instruction with personal passion to educate and inspire students within a vibrant atmosphere that supports strong academics, performance, and personal achievement, grounded on Christian principles of service and excellence.
Nursing
The certificate in Health Sciences is the pathway to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) provided through a transfer partnership with Kettering College in Kettering, Ohio. The prelicensure Bachelor of Science in nursing degree is an innovative program designed to prepare individuals for professional nursing practice and leadership. Students begin by taking a year and a half of prerequisite arts and science courses which provide a solid foundation to begin nursing courses in year two of the program.
Psychology
The Department of Psychology will prepare you with the skills necessary to pursue Graduate studies in Psychology and Related Fields or to enter the Workforce in Human Services. We will introduce you to the fascinating field of Psychology—the study of human functioning. Whether it is the study of the individual and their relationships, culture, behaviours, thoughts, and feelings, or the biology of the human mind and body, the Psychology degree will engage you in the discipline of Psychology from a uniquely Christian perspective.
Religious Studies
The Department of Religious Studies helps students develop a strong foundation for spiritual leadership and ministry. Students will incorporate practical skills into their learning through practicum activities each year. They will have opportunities to complete paid summer pastoral internships. Their ministry courses will incorporate training in cutting edge technologies for digital communication through a partnership with the Burman Ministry Centre. Graduates from the Department of Religious Studies are ready to demonstrate Biblical teachings in all aspects of their ministry and are prepared to tackle graduate studies in a wide range of fields.
Wellness
Combining practical skill training and theoretical classroom teaching, the Department of Wellness prepares students for a career in health. Faculty strive to train students in whole-person care. Graduates from the Department of Wellness are prepared to pursue opportunities in the profession of allied health.
