Focused Consultations

The NetVUE Focused Consultation program is designed to help institutions make progress on planned or in-progress vocation initiatives. Consultations may include bringing new groups of staff and/or faculty members into the campus conversation about vocation, helping to determine why something is not working, facilitating conversations across different divisions on campus, or planning new approaches for a vocation-related goal. Any team involved in a vocation-related initiative on the campus can request a focused consultation

The NetVUE Consultants are college and university leaders who have strong experience in developing and sustaining campus programs for the exploration of vocation. Some have expertise in student mentoring programs, while others have established vocational exploration in academic curricula. They have created venues in which to deepen faculty understanding of the historical, psychological, religious, and cultural dynamics that shape conversations about vocation and related programming on campus. These leaders are knowledgeable about religious and secular texts as well as other resources that support and encourage the search for meaning. They have worked to embed such emphases in ongoing campus life.

A NetVUE Consultant can provide advice on a specific aspect of undergraduate vocational exploration through an on-campus visit. After a member of the faculty or staff at a NetVUE member institution submits an application, NetVUE staff will work with the institution to determine the best person for the consultation based on the needs of the institution and of the specific program on which they are working. Thanks to the generous support of Lilly Endowment Inc., NetVUE is pleased to cover the time and travel of the NetVUE Consultant for a one-day visit. Host campuses are expected to cover meals during the visit .

Application Information

The point person for the consultation visit should submit a proposal (two-page maximum) that addresses the following 6 points:

  1. Contact information for the point person for the consultation.
  2. Names and positions for additional participants in the consultation.
  3. A paragraph describing the need on campus that will be met by the program and the expected outcomes.
  4. Two possible dates for a visit.
  5. A tentative schedule for the visit including those who would like to meet with the consultant. Note that if the application is accepted, the consultant will work with the institution to adjust or finalize the visit plan as needed.
  6. A note indicating that you are willing to provide meals for the consultant during their visit.

The completed application should be sent to Rachael Baker, NetVUE director of professional development, at rbaker@cic.edu. After review and approval, NetVUE will work with the point person to finalize the choice of consultant and the details of the visit.
