CIC’s Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education (NetVUE) is a nationwide network of over 300 colleges and universities formed to support and enrich the collegiate experience of undergraduate students as they explore and discern their many callings in life. Vocational reflection is an interdisciplinary endeavor, bringing together theological, philosophical, ethical, historical, and affective approaches; it draws on theoretical work in these fields in helping institutions develop and implement vocation-related practices—both direct programming for students and professional development for faculty members and staff. This work takes place across a variety of academic departments, pre-professional programs, and campus offices such as career services, student success centers, advising programs, offices of religious or spiritual life, and many more.

Since the last CIC newsletter was published in February 2024, NetVUE members have…
- Sent three-member teams to the 2024 NetVUE Conference in Atlanta, with all expenses waived for accommodation and meals thanks to Lilly Endowment Inc. (watch a 2-minute recap video);
- Received a variety of grants, ranging from $12,000 to $60,000 (a total of 70 NetVUE grants were awarded by CIC since March of this year, totaling over $2.3 million);
- Sent 25 participants to two nationwide interdisciplinary faculty seminars, all expenses paid (participants describe the impact on their classrooms and campuses in this short video);
- Welcomed a number of experts on vocation and calling to their campuses for focused consultations and vocation workshops at no charge;
- Received free decks of NetVUE Conversation Cards for use with students, offering prompts that invite them to dive into their ongoing journeys of vocational reflection;
- Provided cost-effective professional development to faculty members and staff through a NetVUE regional gathering (at only $100 per participant, including food and two nights’ lodging);
- Participated in free webinars on “Taking Vocation Beyond Campus” and “Re-experiencing the NetVUE Conference.”

CIC is pleased to offer this wide range of cost-effective NetVUE programs and services, and is grateful to Lilly Endowment Inc. for its generous support of this program.
If your institution is not yet a NetVUE member and you would like to access these benefits, you are most welcome to join! All CIC institutions (including Associate and International Members) are eligible for NetVUE membership. Click here for detailed information on joining.
Non-members have access to several public-facing NetVUE resources. Please take this opportunity to…
- Delve into any of four books on vocation and higher education, all published by Oxford University Press, produced through the work of the NetVUE Scholarly Resources Project;
- Listen to a professionally-produced podcast, Callings, with episodes released monthly during the academic year—recent guests include Parker Palmer, Kathleen Fitzpatrick, and Miroslav Volf, and you can also hear a compilation of advice to undergraduates from the past year’s guests;
- Browse the posts in the NetVUE blog, Vocation Matters, with several new posts appearing each week (recently, Networking and Vocation and Educating for Friendship), as well as 10 years’ worth of searchable archived material—just right for a quick read or classroom use;
- Take advantage of a special offer for non-members for a free one-time vocation workshop on your campus at no charge (this one-minute video provides a taste of the workshop; contact Rachael Baker, NetVUE director of professional development, at rbaker@cic.edu for more information).
