NetVUE Big Read Webinar: Exploring Our Callings to Higher Education 2025 NetVUE Webinar

September 16, 2025, 4:00 pm NetVUE Webinar

In this webinar, we will hear from Bonnie J. Miller-McLemore as she reflects on her most recent book Follow Your Bliss and Other Lies About Calling. A nationally and internationally recognized leader in women and childhood studies and Christian theology, Bonnie Miller-McLemore is author, co-author, and editor of eighteen books as well as over a hundred chapters and journal articles. She is the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Chair and Professor of Religion, Psychology, and Culture, Emerita at Vanderbilt University. During the webinar, she will explore major themes from her book and how they can help us understand and contextualize the challenges that come with a calling to work in higher education. In addition to participating in a thoughtful discussion, you may discover multiple ways to use the text in your conversations and work with colleagues and undergraduate students.

Follow Your Bliss and Other Lies About Calling is the text for the NetVUE 2025-2026 Big Read. Staff, faculty, and administrators at NetVUE institutions are invited to engage together and discuss the Big Read on their campuses. This year focuses on considering the complexities of calling that may include loss, regret, failure, impediments, frustration, overload, conflict, and challenges.

We will gather on Tuesday, September 16th, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern (3:00 Central, 2:00 Mountain, 1:00 Pacific). The webinar is open to anyone at a NetVUE member institution at no cost, but registration is required.

Please share this information with your colleagues. We hope that you will consider using the webinar as a springboard for further campus conversations that are tailored to your own context.
