NetVUE Webinars
January and February Offerings
Two upcoming NetVUE webinars will feature two different conversations on vocation. The first is designed to spark ideas for campuses to use the 2025–2026 Big Read, Follow Your Bliss and Other Lies About Calling by Bonnie Miller-McLemore. On January 28 at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern), “Narrating Vocational Journeys” will explore how some of our NetVUE colleagues arrived at and navigated their callings to higher education, drawing on language and themes from Miller-McLemore’s book as they share their stories. Presenters include C. Douglas Johnson, teaching professor in the Wake Forest University School of Business; Esteban Loustaunau, professor of Spanish at Assumption University; and Tara Brooke Watkins, assistant professor of music, theatre, and dance at Salve Regina University. On February 18 at 3:00 p.m. (Eastern), colleagues are invited to a conversation on “Vocation and Character.” In this discussion, we will explore the deep connections between the two concepts, emphasizing how our sense of purpose has the potential to shape who we become. Presenters Paul Wadell, professor emeritus of theology and religious studies at St. Norbert College, and Hannah Schell, associate director of advancement communications at Juniata College, are both accomplished authors and contributors to the first volume of NetVUE’s Scholarly Resources Project, At This Time and In This Place: Vocation and Higher Education. Drawing on both philosophical and theological insights, they will discuss how to engage students in living a life of meaning, guided by values and virtues.
