NetVUE Scholarly Resources Project: Update on the Forthcoming Volume
The fifth volume from the NetVUE Scholarly Resources Project is moving towards completion. Vocation, Higher Education, and the Future: Imagining Possibilities, Cultivating Practices will address some of the current challenges in higher education—as well as moments of hope and courage—with attention to vocational exploration and discernment. The current group of scholars, led by editor Erin VanLaningham, met three times over the last year to explore the broad topic of “vocation and the future.” Contributors to the volume (pictured left to right below) are Courtney Kealy, Brandi Simpson, Mari Elise Ewing, Meghan Winchell, Julia Fogg, Lauren Kuykendall, Stephenie Chaudoir, Justin Klassen, Aron Reppmann, Richard Severe, Rich Meagher, Erin VanLaningham (editor), and Andy Chan. The group held their final meeting this past August in Traverse City, Michigan.

Chapters range across a spectrum of topics that are highly relevant today and that will shape the future of higher education: vocation and political obligation, AI and the human person, career and life readiness, strategic leadership, mentoring, resilience, and vocational hope. The book describes practices and pedagogical ideas for engaging all of the university’s constituencies in conversations about calling and purpose. The book will provide innovative ideas and timely advice that will help readers imagine both the present and the future, as they invite students into the rewarding work of vocational reflection and discernment. Stay tuned for more information in the months ahead as the book nears publication.
